So, let’s just get it out there—I know I’m super late to the DIY Christmas paper craft party. The tree’s probably up, the cookies are half-eaten, and Mariah Carey is in full swing. But hey, my holiday markets are finally wrapped up, and I’m on a much-needed break from everything else. That means I finally had time to edit this tutorial and prep the SVG file for this adorable ornament. 🎉
Let me tell you, this poinsettia ornament has been market-tested and approved. In fact, the first few I sold were made from leftover scraps from my giant wreath display at Salty Boutique—yes, even my scraps get a glow-up. These petals? Perfect for using up those odd paper pieces left over when you cut larger petals with your machine. Reduce, reuse, and re-fabulous, am I right?
Now, confession time: in the early days, I painstakingly folded each petal by hand. Yes, each one. By. Hand. The results were gorgeous, but it took so much time I had to price them at $20–$25 just to make it worth my while. And let’s be real—convincing someone at a market to drop $25 on a paper ornament? Not the easiest sell. So, I gave in and got myself a paper crimper. Life. Changed.
Sure, the crimped texture isn’t as dramatic as hand-folding, but it’s still lovely, and now I can whip these babies up in about five minutes flat. That means I can sell them for $8–$10, and everyone’s happy. (Especially me because I get my time back!)
In the tutorial below, I’ll show you how to use the crimper to add that gorgeous texture, how to assemble the ornament, and even the secret to hanging it so it doesn’t go all wonky on the tree. Pro tip: twine is your best friend.

These ornaments also make fantastic gifts. Sofi and I made some for her teachers this year, and they loved them. (A handmade ornament from a cute kid? Instant teacher points.) I’ve even got a video of us making them together:
Oh, and the SVG file? It’s finally live on both our website and Etsy shop. Whichever is your happy shopping place, it’s there waiting for you.
I know I’m late to the Christmas crafting game, but hey, at least now you’re ahead of schedule for next year!
Merry Christmas! 🎄—Deaney
